This was the most Googled diet of 2013 , its supporters have adopted it to improve both their health and their physical appearance. The Paleo diet also seems to have been embraced in particular by those with a gluten or dairy intolerance. In fact the authors of both books in this collection have suffered from colitis . And there's no calorie counting in Paleo which no doubt has contributed to it's popularity. So is this low-carb, dairy-free and grain-free diet for you? The Paleo Diet is based on the eating habits of our Paleolithic ancestors. It consists of foods that can be hunted and fished, such as meat and seafood, and foods that can be gathered, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and eggs. The 85:15 rule allows you to indulge in three non-Paleo meals per week. The exclusion of grains from this diet makes it impossible for vegans or vegetarians to follow.

There is an entire chapter dedicated to stress and cortisol as well as chapters on grains and fitness. The book also has a thirty day meal plan to help get you started on the Paleo Diet so you won't have to do much planning of your own. There are also guidelines for tracking your progress.

So what can you eat on the Paleo Diet? Peanuts are out as are all other legumes (I had no idea it was a legume), but other nuts and bacon are definitely in. Here is a pretty comprehensive list of what you can and can't eat on the Paleo diet.

This book has a nice run down of various staples in Paleo cooking such as almond flour, cashews, coconut milk, coconut oil, and honey as well some equipment like a spiralizer which is used for making noodles/spaghetti out of your veggies. There is a great selection of varied and interesting recipes for breakfast, snacks, soups, starters and main meals. There's also some yummy cakes, biscuits, and stuff for kids. The recipes really do look delectable.

Nom Nom Paleo is one of the most popular food blogs out there and it has won numerous awards for the great recipes and photography. The recipes are easy to follow with photos to guide you all the way through and the results are simply delicious. I highly recommend the Mango + Avocado Salsa on Pan-Seared Salmon . They also have great packed lunch ideas if you're having trouble conjuring up something that's not slapped between two slices of bread.

The main health concerns with the Paleo Diet, raised by the British Dietetic Association (BDA) is that it excludes main food groups such as grains and dairy. A version of the diet that includes these key components is considered healthier.
