I like TED talks. They make me feel a little bit smarter. This collection of talks has a bit of everything; some are funny, some have interesting research, some will have you nodding in agreement, but they all have useful insight into how we can be more successful, not just in our careers, but in life in general.

1. Get more sleep

How to succeed? Get more sleep

Video / ByArianna Huffington

Sleep will make you more productive and alert. If you're reluctant to go to bed earlier, could it be that you're indulging in the kind of sleep deprivation one-upmanship that Arianna touches on.

2. Put effort into your work

What makes us feel good about our work?

Video / ByDan Ariely

You will get more satisfaction from your work if you put in the effort. Have you ever tried baking a cake with cake mix? At 13:30 minutes into this talk you can find out why you need to add an egg.

3. Make it easy for people to follow you

How to start a movement

Video / ByDerek Sivers

If you want to be a good leader make it easy for people to follow you. Derek also suggests embracing your first followers as equals. The example video he uses, brought a smile to my face.

4. Stop underestimating yourself

Why we have too few women leaders

Video / BySheryl Sandberg
"No one gets a promotion if they think they don't deserve success". In this intriguing talk Sheryl Sandberg, author of Lean In explores one of the simplest and perhaps most elusive ingredients in success, self belief.

5. Perservere

The key to success? Grit

Video / ByAngela Lee Duckworth

The most successful people are not the smartest or the most talented. They are the ones that keep going. "The ability to learn is not fixed. It can change with your effort."

6. Stand like Wonder Woman for 2 Minutes

Your body language shapes who you are

Website / ByAmy Cuddy

Adopting a power pose for two minutes can boost your confidence. This brilliant talk is about how our body language affects how we think and feel. This is not about faking it till you make it, it's more faking it till you become more you. You can find images of high-power poses at 10:30 minutes into the talk.

I am the founder of I love reading personal development books and try very hard to implement the stuff that resonates with me. For the most part I am paralysed by fear and indulge in the fine art of proscrastination. So it's small changes for me.
